Digitising operations for fuel supply
Client Requirement
Leading energy businesses have long been at the forefront of automated operations but sophisticated systems managing the physical processes have not always been closely integrated to trading and accounting systems and processes.
Our client, a major European fuel system operator, wanted to digitize their stock management and quality systems and to integrate more closely with customers and suppliers. Existing processes utilized everything from advanced computerised control systems through to spreadsheets and paper.
OUR ROLE
- Arundel analysed all aspects of the existing process including complex stock balancing, transfer and allocation algorithms. Together with our client we re-imagined the operating process for the digital era
- With a vision for the future established, we scanned the market for software products best able to meet the need
- We selected an existing package that could deliver the majority of the requirements – provided by a supplier with the capability to develop additional software modules to make the complete vision a reality
- Arundel led the procurement and contracting process for the software and development services, then moved on to lead the implementation and development work
- Delivery of the new solution started with a detailed design phase to ensure that specifications for the custom software components were fully defined. This design phase was followed by a series of agile development sprints delivering the solution in phases
- With an operation the largest of its kind in Europe navigating a major change to new ‘digital’ processes, the cutover was planned with an extended parallel run – allowing time to ensure the new system behaved as designed
Business Outcome
Simplified and standardized operation bringing a reduction in operator workload, an increase in accuracy, safety and traceability – enabling this growing operation to handle more business at a similar operating cost. Much improved connections to customers, suppliers and other business partners improving accuracy and transparency of business information.
